The role of civil society in local government

The Building movement believes in focusing on the issue of local administration, as it is one of the main approaches to activating public participation and local development. Therefore, it launched within the program Local administration and development Since 2017, a civil campaign to support the roles of civil society and its participation in local governance under the name "Your Role campaign1" .
After four years of work, experience and civil activities, the “Your Role 2” campaign was launched, which was based on the lessons learned, experiences and outcomes of the previous stages, and focused on community interaction with local administration (its extrapolation and studying this interaction in terms of its content or social and civil carrier).
This campaign continued for three months to keep pace with the local administration council elections process. The “Your Turn 2” campaign worked to raise awareness of local administration and administrative decentralization, and to study the possibility of actually blending the concepts of (administrative decentralization, participatory decentralization, and community participation), to form a social and economic model that allows people the opportunity to participate in decision-making, through:

Intervention strategy

It is the first pillar of the project pillars on which the objectives are built, as it is the methodology of influence and motivation followed to target the general category, based on the need to define the roles of local councils, and to define the laws and regulations that affect the effectiveness of these councils. And to complete spreading awareness by documenting the outcomes of the electoral process from nominations and their eligibility to the approved results and programs, in addition to the possible roles of community and official actors in the development process.

The empowerment approach is based on the basic need to build the capacities of civil actors in dialogue, monitoring and follow-up, and to enhance the concepts of local development and peace-building, leading to build integrated and interconnected working groups that can achieve the highest levels of community 
participation and increase the influence of local actors within their localities.

The third pillar completes the work of awareness and empowerment, because their work does not end when the activities are completed, but rather it is an uninterrupted series of technical guidelines and advice that will raise the level of work, and thus achieve the goals in a more effective manner. It is necessary to create a permanent pillar concerned with following up on the work groups, keen to strengthen the partnerships that have been worked on within the activities as an attempt to build more robust sustainability, by constantly linking the tasks and sharing the different observations and opinions that will develop all the workers in the project at different levels of work.
