Damascus Governorate distributes large billboards to advertise the campaigns of candidates for the local administration elections, although Article 43 of the executive instructions of the General Elections Law stipulates that the candidate has the right to start his electoral campaign after accepting the receipt of the notification of acceptance of his candidacy. Therefore, the allocation of places to advertise the campaigns must be linked to the date of the final announcement of the names of those accepted for candidacy, i.e. since last August 15.
Under Article 44 of the General Elections Law, a candidate for local administration elections has the right to withdraw his candidacy after his application has been accepted within a period of no less than seven days prior to election day.
Political parties, especially National Progressive Front parties, usually ask their supporters to withdraw their candidacy under this article in order to run in elections with specific candidates in the name of the party.
Considering that tomorrow is the last day available to withdraw nominations because the election date is September 18, and the National Unity lists that include the Front’s candidates have not been announced yet, it is expected that the lists will be issued tomorrow specifically. It is worth noting that some parties have actually begun asking their candidate supporters to withdraw their nominations in favor of
their comrades whose names are included in the National Unity lists.
Parties outside the National Front coalition have begun announcing their candidates for the local government elections, as the Development and Modernization Party did today. However, none of the Front parties has yet announced their full candidates. It is noteworthy that the announcement of the party's candidates came via the page of the Secretary General on Facebook More than an hour and a half before it was announced on the party's official page.
Article 50 of the General Elections Law stipulates: “Not to paste, fix or display electoral pictures, data and pamphlets outside the places designated for them by the competent local authorities.” The “Your Role” campaign team noted that no places have been announced yet by the competent local authorities in any of the 14 governorates.
At the same time, statements issued by the General Manager of the Arab Advertising Organization, Ayman Al-Akhras, indicate the importance of social media in the electoral campaigns of candidates for the upcoming local administration elections, as they reach “a large number of segments, in addition to the fact that there are some pages that may have a wide spread,” while he links the weakness of advertisements on public roads to “the high costs of road advertisements, including printing and other costs that the candidate will pay for his electoral campaign.” This also raises questions about the role of local councils in facilitating some procedures related to the electoral campaigns of candidates.
As the local administration election day approaches, there are many youth initiatives that demonstrate their interaction with the elections. The “Table” initiative, with the “Hayat” Foundation, joins the civil entities that interact with the elections. The initiative focuses on the role of youth to reach “the initial structure of the guide (activating the role of youth in local administration).”

From the "Your Role" campaign team's follow-ups on the local elections' interactions on Sunday, August 28, 2022:
The Syrian regions are witnessing an increase in the level of interaction with the local elections scheduled for September 18. The city of Tal witnessed a special meeting in the Al-Hamra Palace Hall for the Al-Ahmar family council to consult and choose the most suitable candidate to represent the family in the elections, noting that the Al-Ahmar family is one of the old families in Tal, and there are 5 candidates from the family for membership in the city council, so this is a real interest in the electoral process, and a new model of civil participation in the elections, and the procedure followed by the family will encourage the participation of all family members in the elections
For its part, the “First Neighbour” campaign, organized by the National Union of Syrian Students, involved various stakeholders in the city of Tal in a dialogue session on the upcoming local administration elections.
