"Tales of Light" and "Document for Artists" films
Within the activities of the Reflections on the Image evening, which was held on Tuesday evening 26/1/2021 at the Nation Building Movement, two films were shown:
The first: a documentary entitled “Tales of Light” produced by the movement, which talks about its cultural salon.
The second is titled “Document for Artists” and is the second part of the Genius of Photography series.
The evening began with a screening of the film “Tales of Light”, a short documentary produced by the Nation Building Movement in 2020. It provides a glimpse into the Building Cultural Salon since its establishment and a tour of its various activities, focusing on its heroes, who are the salon’s audience. The film was directed by Firas Muhammad.
While the second part of the series (The Genius of Photography) focused on Soviet propaganda and how it employed photography and used it accurately and objectively to promote the radical utopia of the Soviet Union, and how Nazi Germany used it to cover up the chaos and to add order and clarity.
The importance of this series stems from its skill in linking the history of photography with the social and political context of societies in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, and how they influenced and were influenced by them.
