In the Nation Building Movement, we aim for reconciliation as a long-term national goal and path. In this project, we focus on local experiences that, due to the circumstances of the conflict and the changes in forces and agendas, were not given enough time and effort to enable them and put them on the path of real, productive reconciliation that ensures a sustainable foundation for peace and a more solid strengthening of the sense of belonging. The project is based on necessity and derives its sustainability from the need to employ all opportunities and spaces to maximize the work accomplished in order to establish the values of coexistence and build peace and societal cohesion in Syria. As is the case in all paths and lines of work in NBM, we are keen in this project on partnership, study and initiative.
Project Goals:
- Communicating with all active Syrian components, civil, social, religious, cultural, political and official, in addition to opinion leaders and stakeholders, to study the reality and monitor the needs and gaps that hinder reconciliation processes.
- Employing communication and the network of knowledge achieved in creating fruitful, thoughtful and motivating partnerships to establish the values of peace and coexistence
- Studying local cases that were not allowed to move beyond the settlement stage with all activists in the contexts of these diverse cases, discussing successful steps, and presenting the best visions and approaches to put these experiences on the right track for true reconciliation.
- Creating safe, neutral and free spaces, far from any agenda that does not serve the interests of Syrians, to share harsh experiences and communicate in a way that enhances the culture of dialogue and supports the state of awareness of the other, far from criminalizing it in light of ignorance of its experience and circumstances, which may in many cases be shared experiences and circumstances and not specific to any party, regardless of the fever of classification and alignment.
The most important achievements during this project:
- Peace bike march in Homs.
- Settlements and reconciliation experiences and their study - Workshops -
- Local initiatives to empower settlement areas.
