Syrian National Priorities:

Constitutional Declaration and Transitional Phase

The Nation Building Movement completed the second part of the series of national dialogues by holding three new public sessions on December 26, 2024, in Aleppo, Latakia, and Damascus, with the participation of more than 140 Syrian men and women.

This came after the Nation Building Movement launched the first general national dialogues in all Syrian governorates, within the Syrian Wednesday program, where the first part of the national series was held on December 18, 2024 in each of: Tartous, Homs, Sweida, Damascus, with the participation of more than 250 Syrian men and women.

On Thursday, 12/26/2024, three parallel sessions were held in: Latakia, Aleppo, and Damascus, during which they discussed “Syrian National Priorities: The Constitutional Declaration and the Transitional Phase.”

The attendees participated in the three sessions and discussed their vision for the transitional phase, stressing the need for partnership in this phase and the need to protect peace and diversity in society. They expressed their fears of the rise of hate speech and that continuing exclusion could lead to the risk of division. The participants stressed the need for good preparation for the National Dialogue Conference and setting standards that ensure fair representation for all segments of society, so that this conference produces a committee that drafts a constitution for the country.

Participants stressed the importance of the role of civil society at this stage in order to fill the void and express the needs, requirements and concerns of society, and the need for coordination between entities and activists so that the civil bloc becomes influential and capable of influence, in addition to work to spread awareness whether through social media or by continuing to hold such sessions and defining the terms that are being circulated.
