The end of the photography genius series
Reflections on the Image concluded the screening of the “Genius of Photography” series with the fifth and sixth parts, during its evening held on August 24, 2021 at the movement’s headquarters in Damascus.
Part five, titled “We are family,” focuses on the photographers’ passion moving from the street to the home, the self, and people’s private lives, how the private becomes public, how photography translates personal relationships into photographic relationships, and what happens when photographers turn their cameras on themselves, what do they choose to reveal and what do they try to hide?
While the sixth and final part, entitled “Quick Judgments,” discussed the state of photography these days, and the value of a photograph, which used to be valued at exorbitant sums, today millions of photos are taken every day using mobile phones alone.
This section also deals with the impact of postmodern digital technologies that made everything possible, as well as the rediscovery of techniques that take photography back to the nineteenth century.
It is noteworthy that the Genius of Photography is a documentary series produced in 2007 that talks about photography historically and socially over 100 years of change, and it is translated specifically for our evenings.
