Developing Local Administration Mechanisms and Building Youth Capacities in Sweida
At the beginning of its activities for the new year 2017, the Nation Building Movement in the city of Sweida launched an initiative entitled “Developing Local Administration Mechanisms and Building Youth Capacities” with the aim of spreading the concepts of administrative decentralization as one of the approaches to building peace and development by spreading the concept of planning in partnership between community forces and organizations and local government bodies. It also aims to build youth capacities by raising awareness of the laws and legislative structure of local administration and prospects for its development and refining their abilities in dealing with local government bodies, in addition to training on the concept of investigative journalism, following up on local issues and shaping public opinion.
This initiative comes as an executive step to enter into more detailed work after a round of dialogue, research and gathering of opinions that had taken place in the context of previous work within projects implemented by the movement, targeting a group of civil society activists and organizations. It also targets another group of media activists and journalists.
The workshop will continue for three days, starting today with an introduction to the concepts of local governance and the most important points of Local Administration Law No. 107. On the following two days, work will be done in two groups, each within its own specialization.
Second Day:
The second day of the training workshop for a group of activists and civil society organizations on spreading awareness of the concepts of administrative decentralization, participatory planning, and networking between civil society organizations has begun.
The second day focused on studying the reality of the city of Sweida and identifying the most important problems and available resources to implement a set of solutions in a systematic manner, in addition to identifying the active parties.
The workshop will continue until Saturday, at the end of which final outputs will be developed that can be implemented with local administration agencies.
