"Nation Building Movement" participates in discussions on humanitarian responses to the Syrian crisis in Amman
The Nation Building Movement in Syria participated in the second edition of the “Hear Our Voice” conference, which was held in the capital of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, “Amman,” on September 3 and 4. The participation was represented by the presence of the head of the Nation Building Movement, Mr. Anas Joudeh, the program director, Ms. Haneen Ahmed, and the operations director of the Nation Building Movement, Ms. Taimaa Eissa.
The conference aimed to address the ongoing humanitarian response to the Syrian crisis and align funding, programming and political intervention priorities, as well as address operational challenges and plan collective actions based on the outcomes of previous meetings and the Brussels VIII Conference.
The conference brought together civil society organizations, humanitarian agencies and other stakeholders, and included 70 NGOs including more than 35 local Syrian civil society organizations and networks.
The conference also provided a unique platform for Syrian civil society actors to meet and discuss critical issues, including early recovery and resilience, pathways to durable solutions, and the localization of humanitarian action, especially as the conflict in Syria has continued for 14 years, the largest displacement crisis in the world remains, and funding and focus on the crisis are also dwindling.
The conference brought together 90 participants from across Syria and refugee-hosting countries to exchange views and experiences on pressing challenges and the broader humanitarian response, and its 11-member steering committee played a crucial role in guiding the conference agenda and ensuring a fruitful dialogue.
“We are not here today as experts discussing issues, we are carrying the burden of the Syrian people, we are here to break lines and walls and engage in dialogue as much as possible in the narrow space where we can work and engage,” said Anas Joudeh, lawyer and head of the Nation Building Movement in Syria.
At the conclusion of the conference, participants collectively contributed to formulating recommendations and an advocacy plan aimed at influencing donors and key stakeholders. These efforts are crucial to meeting the needs of Syrians affected by the ongoing crisis and improving their lives.
