Interview with Ghazwane Zarkali

"Ghosn" Program hosted in its cultural salon, at the headquarters of the "Nation Building Movement", the Syrian composer and international pianist "Ghazwane Al-Zarkali".

For an hour, the audience listened to a group of recorded songs, in more than one musical genre: “folk music”, “jazz”, “anthem”, “religious music” and “Andalusian music”. The composer introduced each song with a short introduction explaining its genre, and read the poetic text of more than one poem.

Then an open dialogue took place with the audience about the concerns of beautiful music, compared to what exists now, and about the life of the artist concerned with beautiful art, amidst a flood of financial and procedural difficulties, and about the role of the state and institutions in sponsoring art, and raising the level of artistic taste for the public, starting with teaching music from a young age.

Some voices expressed their pain because they had not heard the name of the composer and his music until now, despite the beauty of his compositions. Some of the attendees noted the diversity of the composer’s talent in composing Eastern and Western music.

At the end of the meeting, after Al-Zarkali answered the audience’s questions, he confirmed that he will continue to fight to be able to deliver his message of spreading beautiful art, despite his frustrations and disappointments. He hopes to compose music for a popular song that will reach the largest number of people.
