Photo Stories

May 2021

Three stories and a short documentary film told the story of the photo of the Photo Stories Evening on Tuesday evening, May 25, 2021, whose visitors celebrated together the third anniversary of its launch for the first time, Photo Stories, the periodic event that told, through the eyes of many Syrians, the stories of dozens of photos taken from the archives of the Nation Building Movement.

The heroine of this evening of stories was a photo of Syrian fishermen taken in the late fifties on Arwad Island. The story of the photo was told by friends Yasser Brou, who included a historical document in his story, entitled “The Milk Man”. This is his third participation in the photo stories; friend Ahmed Al-Tabl, who drew inspiration for his story from ancient Syrian myths, called “Sea”. This was his first experience in writing a short story; friend Qusay Al-Saleh, whose story was a child named “The God of the Sea” Finally, friend Rama Abdi, the photographer, chose to express the photo in a short documentary film that took us to the streets of Damascus, its crowded markets, and its tired people. He drew inspiration for his idea from the spirit of the photo.

The stories and the film presented opened the door for discussion among the audience and the exchange of opinions, whether about their ideas or about their artistic structure and presentation style.
