World Dance Day Lecture
Yesterday, on the occasion of International Dance Day, the globe spun around us, taking us on a tour around the world to learn about the vast culture of dance, from different countries and eras.
From Australia, Africa, South America, Asia, Spain, Ireland, and Argentina, to return east to the Levant region and see how dance styles have diversified and developed between all these countries.
“Dance has evolved and diversified greatly across the ages and geographies. People have left their mark on their dance, which is a fundamental pillar of their culture and identity. It has evolved from religious rituals in temples to become, in our time, an art in its own right, in addition to being a sporting, social and cultural activity. Dance is not only the language of the body, but dance unites the body, soul, mind and feelings into one entity that works like an orchestra. Thus, it is much more than just a language of the body.” This is what (Muhaimin Malas) and (Suha Hassan) told us as they presented us with this dance journey through time.
