World Youth Day

International Youth Day is celebrated annually on 12 August, with the aim of raising awareness in societies about the difficulties and challenges facing young people in the world.
International Youth Day is a day whose resolution was adopted in 1998 on 12 August at the first session of the World Conference of Ministers Responsible for Youth, hosted by the Government of Portugal in cooperation with the United Nations. The recommendation was subsequently endorsed by the United Nations General Assembly at its fifty-fourth session in its resolution 54/120 (of 17 December 1999).
Security Council resolution 2250 (9 December 2015) on youth, peace and security also represents an unprecedented recognition of the urgent need to engage young peacebuilders in promoting peace and countering extremism, and clearly positions youth as important partners in global efforts.
