Project details
The image is a document of human memory and experience, and it can convey very important messages to those who read it correctly.
Aware of the importance of what images - in general - and Syrian visual heritage - in particular - can document and shed light on, we decided to launch this major project that revolves around preserving this Syrian heritage, sharing it with its owners, and enabling them to read it with a new eye and awareness, in a way that sheds light on the roots of experiences, values, and unifying national origins, capable of overcoming the causes of conflict and hostility towards the different other among all Syrians.
The movement sees Syrian culture as an important national carrier that transcends differences and is capable - when invested in - of creating new national spaces for meeting, building, and strengthening the values of cohesion, peace-building, and belonging.
This project of ours contributes to opening the door for everyone and launching the national work journey par excellence, to establish and accomplish a national bank that includes the Syrian heritage and allows its owners, i.e. all Syrians, to view it and learn by themselves about their history, experiences and themselves.
The project focuses on collecting, digitizing and documenting the Syrian intangible heritage of “photos and films” with the aim of preserving this heritage from loss and damage, due to the movement’s belief in the importance of intangible heritage in conveying the most accurate images of Syrian history, narrated and untold, written and unwritten, that are closest to the conscience of Syrians.
The project includes the following lines of work:
- Collecting, digitizing and documenting various archives.
- Building the capacity of young professionals or interested people to produce new outputs that support the photo archive.
